Advertising on Hortiweb

Advertising is available on the right hand panel on most pages.

On the main selection page all advertisments will be shown on a random basis, with a new one shown each time the page is viewed. However each ad is also linked to a category and subcategory. Within the category page, only ads in that category are shown, and the same is true for the subcategory. Therefore as the visitor gets closer to the subcategory they are interested in they will be shown advertisements from companies more and more relevant to their search. This also means that from the advertisers viewpoint their entry is more likely to be shown to visitors with an interest in their products.

Example: you purchase one entry for subcategory p06, Nursery Stock. Your ad will be shown on a random rotation with other p06 ads when the Nursery Stock category is shown to the viewer.

It will also be shown in the Seeds and Plants category in random rotation with all other ads with a "p" prefix

It will also be shown in the main category index in a random rotation with all advertisements.

If no advertisement is present in a particular category, then any other will be randomly shown

As more advertisements are present on the system then your entry will be shown less frequently, but then purchasing a second entry would mean that your ad would be shown twice as often.
